Principal Exploration Geochemist
Posting Date: 2025-09-27
This position is open until filled.
TUZO GeoSurveys is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Exploration Geochemist to join our team and provide technical leadership across advanced mineral exploration programs throughout Canada. This senior role will demand not only a strong command of geochemical theory and applied practice, but also the capacity to design, implement, and oversee end-to-end exploration programs at scales ranging from prospect to district. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and enforcing industry-leading best practices in exploration geochemistry, ensuring rigorous acquisition, QA/QC, interpretation, and integration of geochemical datasets into robust geological and mineralization models.
This position will also require direct involvement in the design, execution, and oversight of field mapping campaigns, hydrogeological drilling, and diamond drill programs, with the Principal Exploration Geochemist serving as the primary technical point of contact for our mineral exploration clients. The role culminates in the delivery of authoritative technical reports, incorporating advanced data synthesis, target assessments, and exploration recommendations that will directly inform clients’ investment and operational decisions.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Applicants must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications and attributes:
-
Professional Experience: 3–5 years of progressive responsibility in mineral exploration, including end-to-end project management, geological mapping, drill program design, and core logging.
-
Education: Advanced academic background in geochemistry; PhD preferred.
-
Technical Specialization: Previous exposure to uranium systems, redox-sensitive hydrothermal fluids, and/or hydrogeological testing will be regarded as a significant asset.
-
Program Management: Proven history of managing drilling programs, including contractor oversight, QA/QC implementation, and regulatory compliance.
-
Professional Registration: Current registration in good standing as a Professional Geologist (P.Geo) with APEGA, OGQ, or an equivalent Canadian regulatory body.
-
Health, Safety & Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in health, safety, and environmental stewardship; uncompromising adherence to field safety protocols and the implementation of PPE standards.
-
Data Integration & Targeting: High-level proficiency in synthesizing diverse geoscience datasets into coherent exploration models; specialist-level capability in geochemistry applied to mineral targeting is a must.
-
Technical Tools: Advanced competence with GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS or equivalent), 3D geological modelling software (Leapfrog), and other industry-standard geoscientific applications.
-
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; English required, bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset.
-
Technical Reporting: Demonstrated ability to prepare comprehensive, defensible technical reports suitable for client delivery and regulatory submission.
-
Collaboration: Skilled at managing relationships with contractors, vendors, and multi-disciplinary teams; ability to lead while fostering collaboration.
-
Logistics & Certifications:
-
Valid provincial Class 5 driver’s licence (or equivalent) with clean abstract.
-
Current, recognized First Aid certification.
-
Key Responsibilities
The Principal Exploration Geochemist will be accountable for:
-
Strategic Program Design: Leading the development and implementation of exploration activities ranging from reconnaissance sampling to resource-scale evaluation, including soil, rock, hydrogeological, and drill-based programs.
-
Technical Execution: Overseeing daily onsite operations including sampling protocols, geological mapping, drill supervision, and QA/QC.
-
Data Management: Logging, photographing, sampling, and archiving drill core and geochemical data with strict adherence to scientific and regulatory standards.
-
Interpretation & Modelling: Conducting high-level interpretation, integration, and 3D modelling of geological and geochemical datasets to refine exploration targets.
-
Project Delivery: Ensuring exploration projects are completed safely, on time, and within scope, while meeting the highest technical standards.
-
Client Interface: Serving as the primary technical advisor and point of contact for clients, including delivering interim updates and final reports with actionable exploration recommendations.
-
Mentorship & Leadership: Providing technical guidance, oversight, and mentorship to field crews, subcontractors, and junior professionals, while upholding TUZO’s standards of diligence and excellence.
